I’ll say this for Zack Synder: He’s definitely going for a more grounded, sophisticated style with Man of Steel. I think it’s telling that the first two trailers for his next film are largely devoid of the visual tics that have defined his career thus far. No slow-mo or glossy special effects here, just some gritty shaky cam to evoke a sense of realism. It’s all very somber, at least until when the trailer reminds you that yeah, this is a Superman movie. Man of Steel is going to be Serious Business, but is it going to be any good? We’ll find out next June.
