For the past week I have been engrossed in The Magician King, by Lev Grossman, sequel to The Magicians. For those who don’t know about The Magicians, it stars Quentin Coldwater a young genius that is invited to Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy… Yes, a college that teaches magic, and yes this is the “adult” version of Harry Potter and I am enjoying every word of Lev Grossman’s world.
In the Magician King Quentin is a full fledged magician and king of a Magical land known as Fillory; think of it as the “Narnia” of our world, with talking animals and the works. At the moment he is on a magical journey that is slowly picking away his immaturity to reveal a man, who knows maybe a king??? I can’t wait to find out.
On a side note I am also enjoying Shin Megami Tensei Persona, a very old school JRPG (Japanese Role Playing Game) with amazing music. This game is about a group of teenagers that discover the power of Persona and have to fight demons in order to save their city. Persona is the power of ones soul manifest on the material plane; and once materialized they use fantastic magical abilities to defeat their enemies. Its an interesting game that I am sure i will spend hours enjoying. After beating Persona 3 and 4 there is no doubt that this game is perfect for me.
