Every month, the various comic book companies release information previewing all of the products they are going to put out in about three months. This is ostensibly done for the benefit of stores so they can figure out what they want to order and how much of it they want, but it’s really become a chance for these companies to hype up their upcoming events to the general fan populace. Vice versa, it’s an opportunity for fans to laud/trash whatever is coming out. DC Comics published their solicitation information for June 2012, and I took note of a few particular items on their docket. Many of them have to do with Superman.
Action Comics #10
I’m kind of tired of this cover motif (Oh No, Generic Hero is in the sights of an ASSASSIN!), but I love seeing Rags Morales draw Superman in any way so this is cool regardless. And I’m a sucker for anything event related when it comes to Superman. Makes this comic sound important and exciting. I’m sold!
Beyond Watchmen
@*&$ this series.
Justice League #10
Also NOPE. However, I like the design of this cover. It’s more creative than just having a generic villain triumphantly standing on top a pile of bodies. Can’t wait to see it finished.
Earth 2 #2
I like the new Jay Garrick. His new uniform still has the basic elements of his original look, but updated to reflect the current style at DC. Except it’s not as shitty as all of those initial New 52 designs. It’s like they got all of the bad concepts out of their system, and now they’re getting to the good stuff.
Worlds’ Finest #2
The WF cover is interesting for a couple of reasons. One, I think it’s weird that Power Girl is on her hands and knees while getting blasted from behind by some weird villain who looks like The Anti-Monitor. And second, her costume design has apparently been altered since she was first revealed. A lot of people pointed out that her uniform was pretty much a knock off of a Superman knock-off named Majestic. The snake has truly ate its own tail at this point. Well now PG has a blue stripe running down the side of her uniform. Looks good to me.
Smallville, Season 11 #2
YES. They’re pretty much going all balls out now that there isn’t any concern for budgets or actor availability. I hope the creative team continues to push the boundaries of this medium to tell completely bat@*#! Insane stories. Let’s have Clark Kent travel back in time to hang out with the Jesus Christ of Earth-X.
Swamp Thing #10
When I saw this solicit, my mind immediately flashed back to one of my favorite moments in comics. The scene early on in Alan Moore’s run when “Holland” realizes Anton Arcane is back from the dead, and the villain just screams “ARCAAAAAAAAAAAANE!!”, almost in celebration of his return. Anyway, this cover isn’t any special, except I think this is the first time we’re seeing the Swamp Thing’s current look in full. He looks almost the same as he always does, but it looks like he has some kind of shoulder armor now.
Scalped #60
The final issue. This is great callback to the very first cover of the series. I wonder who the kid is.
